Pools of the Future: Safety and Energy Efficiency

Project: Bocconi Sport Center
Location: Milan, Italy
Products: PVC-U system from d50 to d315 including valves: VEE, FE, FK/CP
Year: 2021

Specifications:

A new sports complex in the heart of Milan, which also includes the new Bocconi School of Management headquarters, a student residence, and a multifunctional sports center with 3,500 m² of fitness areas, two training courts for basketball and volleyball, an elevated athletics track, and a wellness center.

Solutions Provided:

FIP supplied solutions and components for the water management system of the aquatic center, the centerpiece of the sports complex. The Olympic-size pool, visible from the main hall, features a split movable wall allowing flexible space configuration.

The pools—25 m (training) and 51.5 m (competition)—are integrated into a treatment and recycling system with partialization logic, managing over 3.5 million liters of pool water.

The entire water recycling system was built using FIP by Aliaxis products, specifically PVC-U fittings and components. Butterfly valves from the FE line, VEE ball valves, and FK actuated valves were installed at critical points of the system.

Advantages:

The smart filtration system reduces CO₂ emissions by up to 50% compared to traditional construction systems, along with significant energy savings.
Special attention was given to water conservation: the system maintains optimal water quality by analyzing water parameters and monitoring user access, while simultaneously reducing consumption.
